13 Nov Iguazú falls to Cobacabana, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Scenic Spectacular Smooth Steamy Soaking!

Lovely birthday messages waiting for me; so lucky not forgotten despite being away so long!

Negotiating an important, extra 30mins for packing, breakfast and coffee we were ready and waiting for our rain-delayed ride across the Brazilian border. Smooth, able to drive through, only alighting to show passports in Brazil; traffic from road widening the only hold up!

Iguazú, described as scenic movie-viewing from Brazil, and action participation from Argentina is only partially correct! We did get a super wonderful cinematic panoramic perspective of the falls; there are many more levels and circular canyons visible. However we did get drenched! Partly the drizzle (rain) and spray but also the final board walk was inundated, covered in water… hydrophilic contact lenses not conducive to sight; nervous of rushing cascading water, slippery board walk, soaked, I never made it to the view point, cowardly returning. (I wanted to see another birthday) I should have taken note of all the ponchos!

Created in 1939 the Brazilian side has only one trail, but protects three times as much rainforest; so hard to capture the spectacle on camera.

Cooler day (just late 20s!) I begged coffee before headed off to the airport. Smooth checkin again; sampling some decidedly odd looking and tasting savoury pastries before taking our seats. Still damp!

Rio de Janeiro was a shock! Took ages for our bags to arrive, packed, teeming, traffic, chaos much less safe, tightly packed flavelas clinging to the hillside between modern dishevelled city regions with hills and beaches everywhere! Tired misty Cobacabana beach heaving as we arrived; still steamy in the heat!

Checking in, ditching our bags, beach walk request accepted; wejoined the masses. White sand; touts umbrellas locals tourists kids grandparents uncle Tom Cobbky and all! Hot and humid in the fading light, and the surf still rough; hence drenching number two, a rogue wave got me!

Delicious dinner in the award winning, Italian restaurant a lovely birthday treat. We even saw them receive their award!

Not often you have such a memorable birthday!

Crossing the border between Brazil & Argentina; Argentina's customs then the actual border.

(What Christmas already!)

(So many photos! Hard to capture) (the birds the circling vultures we'd been watching for days) (selfie - me choosing sight and self-preservation; in other words wimping out!)
