24 Sept 2022 Madrid to Cartagena via Bagotá: Long Luxurious Luminous Lightning

“Did you have a good or a bad night?” said the waitress at breakfast? Perplexed I said no? Realising I was radiating thunder, “Just packing! “ I mumbled as I fled, coffee in hand back to wrestle with my exploded suitcase!

Arriving on time at Madrid airport we queued for ages; changing pounds to pesos via euros; catching the elusive underground transport

eventually to the South terminal, and receiving our exit passport stamp. “23minutes precisely” was a vast underestimate. Brexit rumblings were muttered in my ear!

We sat in a delightful airport lounge drinking coffee, chatting to our youngest over wifi before boarding was announced. We walked straight onto the plane to another amazing seat pod! Yes I have played with; seats, screens, secret tables, blankets and more. Yes I did take ages eating our gourmet dinner. Yes my Spanish has failed me so whilst Simon is fluently conversing, I’ve resorted to English! I am enjoying blowing the kids inheritance or rather not contributing to the inherent tax coffers. (Grateful for all the free support we had for mum, I admit I’m feeling a bit guilty!)

Still 3hrs (out of 9+) plus more planes to go.

Amazing to be 2500m above sea level and taxiing to the gate! Early we breezed through customs, bag collection, and passport control, checking in immediately onto the next flight! We could have caught the earlier one but I guess the connections are made with plenty of delay time! Managing to order coffee feeling a bit more lively we found seats at the gate only 1.5hrs before takeoff.

An amazing luminous lightning storm lit up the sky in the short flight to Cartegena. My stomach confused I was greatful for the water, crisps, and cereal bar. We were met at the airport with a transfer to the hotel. Our very much needed air conditioned bed for the night was in a converted villa hotel in the old walled city. Totally scrambled whilst being shattered sleep elusive!

Flights to Bogatá and then Cartegena

We stayed at Ananda boutique hotel inside the old town Cartegena de Indias.
