Day 14 Port Isaac to Padstow Sunny; Superb Sandy Beaches; Scenic Seascapes; Rick Stein for tea!

Updated: Jul 30, 2022

A soggy, stingy, short (ahm long cut) through the valley took us back to join the path in Port Isaac, helpfully opposite the ladies! Confusion followed as I took the wrong path. A slightly easier walk along the exposed moorland headland with slightly easier ascents and descents across river valleys and inlets took us to the surfing beach at Polzeath. I was excited to see you could still park on the beach! A childhood memory of mine eating sausages from the VW camper on that beach.

First we walked through Port Quin past the antimony mines where the air-sea rescue were out. Then across Lundy bay, with the window in the rocks. We met many Sunday walkers on the windswept Rumps; the Iron Age fort really does look like a dinosaur! The surfers were out in force as we decended into Polzeath. Fortified with provisions we walked across the dunes along the camel estuary taking the foot ferry to Padstow from Rock, where the rain finally caught up with us. We saw the new hover surf boards too; looks really har.

Luxury - a washing machine; treat - dinner at Rick Stein’s Seafood restaurant (expensive but worth it!).

Official SW Coast path: 12miles

Official running total: 164miles

Hope you are enjoying it still. I don't remember eating sausage sandwiches on the beach!! I do remember playing in the sand but can't remember the beach, maybe that one. Maybe I was in trouble for getting all my clothes wet, who knows?
