Day 18 Perranporth to Portreath Perfect weather; Poldark country; Phosphorescing seas

Updated: Jul 30, 2022

Perfect walking weather greeted us after breakfast overlooking the surf across Perran bay; tide in.

We ascended the cliffs into coal & tin mining country; the setting for Poldark. We passed the remnants of shafts before being treated to stunning views of the beaches and sparkling sea at St Agnes head. Practising pilots buzzed us from the local airfield as we crossed the cliffs. Talented surfers were out in the waves.

Of course there were more ascents and descents thankfully with great panoramic views of the coastline and some easier walking in between! Chatting with our friend really helped. The blue sky was the perfect back drop for the Blue Hills tin mine Wheal Coates & 200 year old Towanroath Shaft engine house.

Another descent followed by a rest and snack on the beach at Chapel Porth in the sun; why didn’t I queue for a coffee?

Bobbing seal heads helped tiredness evaporate as we headed up and down the last cliff valley before heading into Portreath in search of coffee and cake!

3 sets of snaps: couldn’t choose: too many photos!

Official SW Coast path: 12miles

Official running total: 212miles
