Day 26 Marazion to Porthleven Azure skies; Aquamarine Seas; Accompanying & Acquiescing

Updated: Jul 30, 2022

Accompanied by our son, armed with Philps breakfast pasty, coffee and saffron cakes, tide out we headed across the causeway for breakfast at St Michaels Mount. Back on the path we had excellent views looking back at the castle on the mount from the other side.

Narrow bushy paths lead across the cliffs for a snack overlooking the sparkling rocky coast; colours of sky and sea really beautiful shades of blue.

Foundered cliffs caused the path to be rerouted giving glimpses of beautiful sandy but now inaccesible beaches. In search of a lunch spot we headed for Praa sands. Pasties (as good as advertised) and a paddle over we decided to walk barefoot across the beach. Not easy; no scampering the sands, weighed down by my pack I lagged behind.

Turning to slate, a steeper more rugged path took us back to tin mining country to Wheal Prosper engine house, used for the 1995 Poldark series.

We saw the ‘camel’ rock formation as we descended into Portleven. Released from the stocks, ice cream called. Rescued from an enthusiastic drunk by a couple catching the bus, our son headed to collect his car. Meanwhile we sat snoozing, I mean drinking tea, watching Porthleven promenade, tombstone from the harbour and swim!

Later I acquiesced as they ticked the last Cornish item on my son’s list - sea food platter!

Official SW Coast path: 11miles

Official running total: 285miles
