Day 37 Portwrinkle to Plymouth; Ludicrous pollen clouds; Level(ish); Lovely views; Lucky?

Updated: Jul 31, 2022

Fortunately no firing at Tregantle Fort, so we rejoined the path along the cliffs to lovely views across the bay, after a quick permissive short cut across fields.

Dodging traffic on the road we then rejoined the overgrown path along the whitsand’s cliffs wending it’s way through off grid (possibly) dwellings dotted clinging to the edge; lovely sea views. Well behaved night rain, lulled us into thinking we’d escaped. Instead we were drenched in dew, pollen and rain drops from giant heavily laden foliage! Fearing for my hive covered husband, we stopped for coffee and cake in a hillside cafe. Everything chest down was soaked!

Level (well what counts for level) walking across the Rame headland upto St Michaels chapel then through woods down into Cawsands looking out across to Devon. Leaving quaint, quiet Cawsands we looked for refreshments in Kingsands, also quiet! A scramble across a pink rocky beach took us back to the path and down to Mount Edgecombe country park, through woods and more foundered diversions! We just managed a last Cornish cream tea before catching the chremyll ferry to Plymouth.

Not as strange as I thought to be back in a city as we walked the historic dock lands round to west hoe. Luckily a kind pharmacist gave my husband a temporary subscription, before we found our guest house; much sympathy for overloaded NHS! Well behaved evening rains stole the view of Plymouth sound at dinner!

Official SW Coast path: 13miles

Official running total: 408miles
