Day 39 Plymouth to Wembury; Iconic; Industrial; Indistinct views; Indeterminate weather

Updated: Jul 31, 2022

Indeterminate weather greeted us as we traced the coastline through iconic Plymouth, around the harbours, marinas, industrial zones, coastal suburbs and ancient fishing hamlets, all now part of the city of Plymouth. Turnchapel was particularly quaint; of course more foundered cliffs caused confusion! Road walking, with level paths joyous on the joints and easy footings, for once we made good time. We stopped for coffee, until the smell of burning fibreglass moved us on!

Feeling righteous, that we didn’t cheat and catch the ferry we rounded mount batten headland, climbing up to Jennycliff for our last indistinct views back to Plymouth & Cornwall.

Short climbs through woods over, we donned waterproofs at Bovisands before walking through sea mist along the isolated sea level paths around Wembury point onto Wembury beach. As the mist swallowed the horizon we were treated to indistinct bay views of the iconic dominating Mewstone rock. Dodging the rain we popped into the marine centre and the cafe! Tide in we could just make out the rock pools Wembury is famous for.

Novel to walk almost the whole day at sea level, with few climbs right beside the sea!

A welcome dry haven and cream tea. Rating 8 Old Mill Cafe (Great, Tasty, Fresh)

Official SW Coast path: 15miles

Official running total: 423miles
