A pleasant sunny morning saw us walking in t-shirts passing pretty picturesque coves and harbours. The last of the steep climbs and returns to sea level over, we descended down to Ilfracoombe, with a clear view of Verity, the bronze statue by Damian Hirst.
Footprints lead the way through Ilfracoombe town. We were too early for cream tea, so we scaled the Torrs to picturesque Lee bay, hoping a hotel, marked on the map would oblige. Derelict! Storm damaged 15years ago.
Biscuits on the beach with a bottle of water begged from a kind family dining. Nice view!
Easy walking along the cliff path to Woolacoombe; so we thought. The area between Lee bay and Morte point is a stunning site of special scientific interest with picturesque coves, vicious rock formations, beautiful maritime heathland, grazing sheep and cattle. Strenuous up; strenuous down! We we’re rewarded with glimpses of basking seals and Woolacoombe sandy beaches as we rounded the headland.
No cream tea. (Compensation excellent pizza on the beach from Stoned wood-fired pizza van)
Official SW Coast path: 13miles
Official running total: 47miles
