Day 7 Instow to Westward Ho! Balmy; Beautiful; sandy Beaches

Updated: Jul 29, 2022

As we ate a delicious breakfast (best yet) the mist evaporated; treating us to views of Appledore across the river Torridge. Joining the tarmac railbed, the Tarka trail, for the last time, we headed for Bideford, just managing to resist temptation - the ferry!

At Bideford we passed the old station and signal box, crossing the river via the grade 1 listed long bridge with uneven spans along with the Bideford 10k race runners! We followed the town footprints past Charles Kingsley’s statue to the trail to the shipbuilding town of Appledore. A quaint picturesque old town with multicoloured houses and great names plus Guerilla knitters!

We then walked across Northam burrows dodging golf balls to Westward Ho! beach; lunch looking back at where we were 3days ago! Watching the surfers, we strolled along the beach to Westawrd Ho!

No cream tea - consolation delicious pastries left over from breakfast!

Official SW Coast path: 11miles

Official running total: 86miles
